Dies in the House He Occupied for 45 Years.
One of the last the old corn porters, who flourished when trade was properous in Boston river and the quays were a constant scene of bustle and activity, passed away on Saturday morning in the person of Mr. James Sharpe. His age was 73. and for 45 years he lived in the house where he died, No. 5. St. John’s-road.
Mr. Sharpe was a native of Frieston, but he spent fifty years his life in Boston. After leaving the corn portering he was gardener at the Peacock and Royal Hotel for twenty years, under the Misses Jackson and Mr. R. H Clemow. At the same time he was a dairyman on his own account St. John’s-road. and this business he continued till his death. He leaves a widow and ten children. There are 43 grandchildren living and one great-grandchild.
The funeral took place at Boston Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. W. J. Hopper. minister of the Zion Church, officiating. There were many family mourners, who followed the order named :

1st Carriage. – The widow of deceased and Mr Harry Christian, her son by a former husband; Mr. Edward Sharpe and Mrs. Lammie, son and daughter; Mr. Thomas Sharpe and Mrs. Louisa Ward, son and daughter.
2nd Carriage. — Mr. Robert Sharpe and Mrs. Kate Johns, son and daughter; Mr. Joseph Sharpe and Mrs. Appleyard. son and daughter.
3rd Carriage.- Mr. Daniel Lammie, Mrs. Christian. Mr. George Ward, Mrs. Thomas Sharpe, Mr. Appleyard. Mrs. Edward Sharpe. sons-in-law and daughters-in-law
4th Carriage. Mrs. Joseph Sharpe and Mrs. Robert Sharpe (Grimsby) daughters-in-law; and Dorothy Johns, Florrie Christian, Lily Johns, and Aubrey Sharpe, grandchildren.
Wreaths:— “From his sorrowing wife”; “Harry and Emma”; “Lizzie and Dan and family”; “Kate, Bob, and Mary”; “Jo and Aggie”; “Louie and George”; “Tom, Aggie and and children”, “Ted, wife and family”; “Tilly and Frank”; “Dorothy. Lily and Teddy.” Messrs. J. W. Darby and Son were the undertakers.
